I am interested in learning English. It had been more than a couple of years that I only read, wrote, and listened in English, with no speaking at all. They say: Use it or lose it. This is especially true in learning languages. So I made a decision to learn to communicate better in English.
One day, I watched the presentations at the end of the semester at Daan Community University. The performance by the Intermediate English Conversation class ("The Dumb Blond") attracted me. How perfect, I thought. I registered for it right away.
Our teacher Jennifer is a native English speaker who knows the western and Taiwan cultures well, and has run professional English services for a few years. I like her charm, intelligence, friendliness, and positive personality in the class. She always gives us more ideas about learning English the correct ways, and having a positive attitude when learning English.
I have taken the class for three terms. I have gained more confidence and my English has improved a lot through the class activities. I am no longer scared to talk with foreigners in English when I meet them. I am glad to learn English in my free time. It's brought me a new lifestyle and fun.
Join us on FRIDAY NIGHT. It is definitely a worthwhile experience!

學習英語是我的興趣. 已經學了幾年英語, 但是只有讀.寫和聽,從來沒有和別人用英語交談.俗諺說:"用進廢退"尤其在學習語言上更要多用多說,所以,我決定學習如何用英語做更好的溝通.
有一天,我參觀大安社區大學學期末的成果發表會,其中一個表演是中級英語會話班的一齣"金髮尤物"的演出,吸引住我,啊,多完美的表演,當下立即註冊該課程.
我們的老師--Jennifer是個以英語為母語的人.她非常了解台灣和西方的文化,而且從事專業英語教學很多年.課堂中,我喜歡她的魅力.智慧.而且友善.積極正向的個人特質.她常提示我們正確的英語學習方法和積極學習的態度.
我已經上了三學期的英語課,透過各種學習活動,我的英語能力改善了,也更有自信了.當我遇見外國人時,不再害怕用英語跟他們溝通.我真高興,學習英語充實了我的休閒生活,更帶給我新的生活型態和樂趣.

1The snake was sneakier than any of the other wild animals that the LORD God had made. One day it came to the woman and asked, "Did God tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?"
2The woman answered, "God said we could eat fruit from any tree in the garden, 3except the one in the middle. He told us not to eat fruit from that tree or even to touch it. If we do, we will die."
4"No, you won't!" the snake replied. 5"God understands what will happen on the day you eat fruit from that tree. You will see what you have done, and you will know the difference between right and wrong, just as God does."
6The woman stared at the fruit. It looked beautiful and tasty. She wanted the wisdom that it would give her, and she ate some of the fruit. Her husband was there with her, so she gave some to him, and he ate it too. 7Right away they saw what they had done, and they realized they were naked. Then they sewed fig leaves together to make something to cover themselves.
8Late in the afternoon a breeze began to blow, and the man and woman heard the LORD God walking in the garden. They were frightened and hid behind some trees.
The Trouble with Sin
9The LORD called out to the man and asked, "Where are you?"
10The man answered, "I was naked, and when I heard you walking through the garden, I was frightened and hid!"
11"How did you know you were naked?" God asked. "Did you eat any fruit from that tree in the middle of the garden?"
12"It was the woman you put here with me," the man said. "She gave me some of the fruit, and I ate it."
13The LORD God then asked the woman, "What have you done?"
"The snake tricked me," she answered. "And I ate some of that fruit."
14So the LORD God said to the snake:
"Because of what you have done, you will be the only animal to suffer this curse-- For as long as you live, you will crawl on your stomach and eat dirt.
15You and this woman will hate each other; your descendants and hers will always be enemies. One of hers will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel."
16Then the LORD said to the woman, "You will suffer terribly when you give birth. But you will still desire your husband, and he will rule over you."
17The LORD said to the man, "You listened to your wife and ate fruit from that tree. And so, the ground will be under a curse because of what you did. As long as you live, you will have to struggle to grow enough food.
18Your food will be plants, but the ground will produce thorns and thistles. 19You will have to sweat to earn a living; you were made out of soil, and you will once again turn into soil."
20The man Adam [a] named his wife Eve [b] because she would become the mother of all who live. 21Then the LORD God made clothes out of animal skins for the man and his wife.
22The LORD said, "These people now know the difference between right and wrong, just as we do. But they must not be allowed to eat fruit from the tree that lets them live forever."
23So the LORD God sent them out of the Garden of Eden, where they would have to work the ground from which the man had been made.
24Then God put winged creatures at the entrance to the garden and a flaming, flashing sword to guard the way to the life-giving tree.

1So the heavens and the earth and everything else were created.
The Seventh Day
2By the seventh day God had finished his work, and so he rested.
3God blessed the seventh day and made it special because on that day he rested from his work.
4That's how God created the heavens and the earth.
When the LORD God made the heavens and the earth,
The Garden of Eden
5no grass or plants were growing anywhere. God had not yet sent any rain, and there was no one to work the land. 6But streams [a] came up from the ground and watered the earth.
7The LORD God took a handful of soil and made a man. [b] God breathed life into the man, and the man started breathing. 8The LORD made a garden in a place called Eden, which was in the east, and he put the man there.
9The LORD God placed all kinds of beautiful trees and fruit trees in the garden. Two other trees were in the middle of the garden. One of the trees gave life--the other gave the power to know the difference between right and wrong.
10From Eden a river flowed out to water the garden, then it divided into four rivers. 11The first one is the Pishon River that flows through the land of Havilah, 12where pure gold, rare perfumes, and precious stones are found. 13The second is the Gihon River that winds through Ethiopia. [c] 14The Tigris River that flows east of Assyria is the third, and the fourth is the Euphrates River.
15The LORD God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of it and to look after it. 16But the LORD told him, "You may eat fruit from any tree in the garden, 17except the one that has the power to let you know the difference between right and wrong. If you eat any fruit from that tree, you will die before the day is over!"
18The LORD God said, "It isn't good for the man to live alone. I need to make a suitable partner for him." 19-20So the LORD took some soil and made animals and birds. He brought them to the man to see what names he would give each of them. Then the man named the tame animals and the birds and the wild animals. That's how they got their names.
None of these was the right kind of partner for the man. 21So the LORD God made him fall into a deep sleep, and he took out one of the man's ribs. Then after closing the man's side, 22the LORD made a woman out of the rib.
The LORD God brought her to the man, 23and the man exclaimed,
"Here is someone like me! She is part of my body, my own flesh and bones. She came from me, a man. So I will name her Woman!" [d]
24That's why a man will leave his own father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two of them become like one person.
25Although the man and his wife were both naked, they were not ashamed.

7The LORD God took a handful of soil and made a man. [b] God breathed life into the man, and the man started breathing. 8The LORD made a garden in a place called Eden, which was in the east, and he put the man there.
9The LORD God placed all kinds of beautiful trees and fruit trees in the garden. Two other trees were in the middle of the garden. One of the trees gave life--the other gave the power to know the difference between right and wrong.
10From Eden a river flowed out to water the garden, then it divided into four rivers. 11The first one is the Pishon River that flows through the land of Havilah, 12where pure gold, rare perfumes, and precious stones are found. 13The second is the Gihon River that winds through Ethiopia. [c] 14The Tigris River that flows east of Assyria is the third, and the fourth is the Euphrates River.
15The LORD God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of it and to look after it. 16But the LORD told him, "You may eat fruit from any tree in the garden, 17except the one that has the power to let you know the difference between right and wrong. If you eat any fruit from that tree, you will die before the day is over!"
18The LORD God said, "It isn't good for the man to live alone. I need to make a suitable partner for him." 19-20So the LORD took some soil and made animals and birds. He brought them to the man to see what names he would give each of them. Then the man named the tame animals and the birds and the wild animals. That's how they got their names.
None of these was the right kind of partner for the man. 21So the LORD God made him fall into a deep sleep, and he took out one of the man's ribs. Then after closing the man's side, 22the LORD made a woman out of the rib.
The LORD God brought her to the man, 23and the man exclaimed,
"Here is someone like me! She is part of my body, my own flesh and bones. She came from me, a man. So I will name her Woman!" [d]
24That's why a man will leave his own father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two of them become like one person.
25Although the man and his wife were both naked, they were not ashamed.

1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [a]
2The earth was barren, with no form of life; [b] it was under a roaring ocean covered with darkness. But the Spirit of God [c] was moving over the water.
The First Day
3 God said, "I command light to shine!" And light started shining. 4God looked at the light and saw that it was good. He separated light from darkness 5and named the light "Day" and the darkness "Night." Evening came and then morning--that was the first day. [d]
The Second Day
6 God said, "I command a dome to separate the water above it from the water below it." 7And that's what happened. God made the dome 8and named it "Sky." Evening came and then morning--that was the second day.
The Third Day
9 God said, "I command the water under the sky to come together in one place, so there will be dry ground." And that's what happened. 10God named the dry ground "Land," and he named the water "Ocean." God looked at what he had done and saw that it was good.
11God said, "I command the earth to produce all kinds of plants, including fruit trees and grain." And that's what happened. 12The earth produced all kinds of vegetation. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 13Evening came and then morning--that was the third day.
The Fourth Day
14 God said, "I command lights to appear in the sky and to separate day from night and to show the time for seasons, special days, and years. 15I command them to shine on the earth." And that's what happened. 16God made two powerful lights, the brighter one to rule the day and the other [e] to rule the night. He also made the stars. 17Then God put these lights in the sky to shine on the earth, 18to rule day and night, and to separate light from darkness. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 19Evening came and then morning--that was the fourth day.
The Fifth Day
20 God said, "I command the ocean to be full of living creatures, and I command birds to fly above the earth." 21So God made the giant sea monsters and all the living creatures that swim in the ocean. He also made every kind of bird. God looked at what he had done, and it was good. 22Then he gave the living creatures his blessing--he told the ocean creatures to live everywhere in the ocean and the birds to live everywhere on earth. 23Evening came and then morning--that was the fifth day.
The Sixth Day
24 God said, "I command the earth to give life to all kinds of tame animals, wild animals, and reptiles." And that's what happened. 25God made every one of them. Then he looked at what he had done, and it was good.
26God said, "Now we will make humans, and they will be like us. We will let them rule the fish, the birds, and all other living creatures."
27So God created humans to be like himself; he made men and women. 28God gave them his blessing and said:
Have a lot of children! Fill the earth with people and bring it under your control. Rule over the fish in the ocean, the birds in the sky, and every animal on the earth.
29I have provided all kinds of fruit and grain for you to eat. 30And I have given the green plants as food for everything else that breathes. These will be food for animals, both wild and tame, and for birds.
31God looked at what he had done. All of it was very good! Evening came and then morning--that 1was the sixth day.

I Have a Dream

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day, runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth. In numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow. I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.
就是這日夜在我血管裏奔騰的生命之流，奔騰於世界之中，按著節奏手舞足蹈。就是這同一的生命，歡樂地從大地上破土而出，蔚為芳草無數，發為綠葉繁花，搖曳如波浪起伏。就是這同一的生命，隨看潮汐漲退，在生與死的海洋搖籃裏搖蕩。我覺得我的四肢因受著生命世界的愛撫而光榮。我的驕傲，是因為時代的脈搏，此刻正在我血液中跳動。

Matt Harding，1976年次的年輕人，
他在2003年用他所有的積蓄去旅行，
在旅行中只是一個簡單的想法，用跳舞記錄他到過的每個地方，
而他都把所有的紀錄放在自己的網站，
當初網站也只是要讓他的親人與朋友知道他在外一切安好。
後來有人發現了這些影片並開始傳閱，
於是有家口香糖廠商覺得他的構想很棒，贊助他旅遊經費，
因此在2006年他花了六個月走遍了39個國家，
接下來的2007、2008年他依舊到世界各地跳舞（包括了台灣），
而且還有了許多的同伴共舞。
Matt跳的舞很滑稽，但是他的笑容與熱情卻是讓人感動，
他只是一個簡單的動作、簡單的想法改變了他的一生，
至今他已經去了63個國家！
有時想想我們是不是都有認真的看待我們靈機一動的小想法？
我們是不是真的就去執行了？還是我們會因為旁人的取笑就做罷了？
如果我們都像Matt這樣認真對待一個這麼簡單、或許說很呆的想法，
或許一個無法預期的驚喜就等著我們！
就算我們得不到相同的驚喜，至少我們擁有了年老了值得回憶的豐富生命！
曾幾何時我們也有許多夢想，不過通常會為了很多因素而錯過了。
他剛開始到世界各地拍影片時，那時還沒有 YouTube 咧。
單純只是想圓一個夢吧！

- Don't think too much.
- Exercise 30 minutes, three times a week, and eat right.
- Think positive. There's always a positive side to everything.
- Do the things you enjoy doing.
- Look at the bright side of everything that bothers you. e.g. a controlling husband.
- You can't control everything. When there's something you can't control, just relax.
- Be content and thankful to God in everything you go through.

My English Adventure
I went to Australia with my niece two years ago. Her English is excellent. I depended on her on the entire trip. I couldn't speak any words in English because I was afraid of making mistakes. I was very upset. I decided to learn how to communicate and improve my English skills. Then I could travel abroad by myself.
I went to the Daan Community College and started my adventure in English. Learning a foreign language is very difficult, especially at my age. I attended the Intermediate English Conversation class. The first rule is: Speak English and no Chinese in the class. I had a lot of worries about it. I remember what I said in the first class： "My English is very poor. I feel nervous and wonder if I can catch up with the class. "Fortunately I had met a nice teacher - Jennifer. She said："Take it easy. Relax. There is lots of fun in the class. The most important thing about learning English is your attitude. Only compare with yourself－not with others. "She encouraged us: "Just try to speak, don't be afraid of making mistakes. The more mistakes you make, the more you learn. "She always reminds us that maintaining a positive attitude when learning English is very important. So try, try, try, and never give up.
This is my third term. We have many discussions (such as relationships, travel, hobbies, work, beliefs, etc.). I can practice over and over. We had a presentation at the end of each semester (one is "the Dumb Blond", the other is "When the Prince Meets the Princesses"). Performing in English was exciting! We had many things to arrange, including actors, props, outfit, and memorizing the script. It was a special experience which I'd never had. I really got lots of fun from the class.
I'm glad that my English is improving. I went to the photo shop last week. A foreigner came in, but the clerk couldn't speak English. I encouraged myself to communicate with her. She wanted to take a photo for her visa and get the photo by 12 o'clock. She was in a hurry. She wanted to take a snapshot. The clerk said the snapshot couldn't be used for visa, because there was no film. She should wait until one o'clock. I was not shy to talk with the foreigner in English although my translation was not perfect. I found that I had more confidence than before. Later when I went back to the photo shop to pick up my photos, the clerk said "You speak English well. "I knew it was not true. It doesn't matter. I didn't feel nervous when I met the foreigner. If I continue to practice, my English will get better and better.
Create an English environment for yourself. It will be help you speak good English. This can include playing CD as background sound when you are driving or cooking, listening to ICRT and trying to figure out what the Dee-jays and their guests are saying, and watching English movies on TV. Or you can consider joining our English class. If you allow yourself to be immersed in English a couple of times a week, you will definitely start to see improvement.

兩年前我和姪女到澳洲旅遊，她的英語一級棒，整個行程我都仰賴她，因為怕出錯我根本不敢開口。我很沮喪，下定決心學習如何溝通並增進英語會話技巧，以後就可以獨自出國旅遊不求人了。
於是來到大安社區大學開始了我的英語探險。學習外語本來就蠻難的，尤其像我這樣年紀。我參加的是中級英語會話課，老師的第一條規則就是：在教室只能講英語不可以說國語。這讓我很擔心，猶記得上第一堂課時我說：「我的英語很破，我非常的緊張，真懷疑能否跟得上課程進度？」。幸運的是我遇到了一位好老師－Jennifer，她說：「別緊張，放輕鬆，這課程很有趣。學習英語最重要的是你的態度，只要和自己比較，而不是和他人比較。」，她鼓勵我們：「儘管試著說，不要怕犯錯，錯的越多你會學的越多。」她時常提醒我們，當你學習英語時保持積極的態度，這是非常重要的，所以要不斷的嚐試，千萬別放棄。
這是我第三期的英語課，課程中我們有許多話題的討論(例如：關係、旅遊、嗜好、工作、信仰…等)，可以不斷的練習會話。每學期末成果發表會我們表演短劇(一齣是「金髮尤物」，另一齣是「當王子遇見公主」)。我們用英語表演短劇，是多麼令人興奮的事啊！這期間有許多的事要準備包括色角安排、道具、服裝和記對白等。這是我從未有過的特殊的經驗，我碓實從這課程中得到很多的樂趣。
很高興我的英語在進步中，上週我到照相館洗相片，一位外國人進來，店員不會說英語，我鼓足了勇氣上前和她溝通，她要拍照辦簽證須在十二點拿到照片，因為很急希望能拍快照。店員說辦簽證是不能用快照的相片，因為沒有底片，必須等到下午一點才能拿得到相片。雖然我的翻譯不甚完美，但我已不再害羞和外國人說英語了。我覺得比從前有信心許多。我再到照相館取相片時，店員說：「你的英語說得很好」，我知道不是真的，那又何妨，我若遇到外國人已不會那麼緊張了。如果持續不斷的練習，我的英語將會更好。
為自己創造一個英語的環境，有助於你的英語會話。這包括了當你在做飯或開車時可播放CD做為背景聲音，聽ICRT並試著理解DJ和來賓的對話，看英語發音的電視影片，或是可以考慮加入我們的英語會話課。如果你能讓自己每週沈浸在英語裏一些時間，你一定會發現你的英語開始進步了。
