1One hot summer afternoon Abraham was sitting by the entrance to his tent near the sacred trees of Mamre, when the LORD appeared to him. 2Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. He quickly ran to meet them, bowed with his face to the ground, 3and said, "Please come to my home where I can serve you. 4I'll have some water brought, so you can wash your feet, then you can rest under the tree. 5Let me get you some food to give you strength before you leave. I would be honored to serve you." "Thank you very much," they answered. "We accept your offer."
6Abraham quickly went to his tent and said to Sarah, "Hurry! Get a large sack of flour and make some bread." 7After saying this, he rushed off to his herd of cattle and picked out one of the best calves, which his servant quickly prepared. 8He then served his guests some yogurt and milk together with the meat.
While they were eating, he stood near them under the trees, 9and they asked, "Where is your wife Sarah?" "She is right there in the tent," Abraham answered. 10One of the guests was the LORD, and he said, "I'll come back about this time next year, and when I do, Sarah will already have a son."
Sarah was behind Abraham, listening at the entrance to the tent. 11Abraham and Sarah were very old, and Sarah was well past the age for having children. 12So she laughed and said to herself, "Now that I am worn out and my husband is old, will I really know such happiness?" [a] 13The LORD asked Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh? Does she doubt that she can have a child in her old age? 14I am the LORD! There is nothing too difficult for me. I'll come back next year at the time I promised, and Sarah will already have a son."
15Sarah was so frightened that she lied and said, "I didn't laugh." "Yes, you did!" he answered.
Footnote: a. Genesis 18:12 know such happiness: Either the joy of making love or the joy of having children.
Genesis 21 Sarah Has a Son
1The LORD was good to Sarah and kept his promise. 2Although Abraham was very old, Sarah had a son exactly at the time God had said. 3Abraham named his son Isaac, 4and when the boy was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, just as the LORD had commanded.
5Abraham was a hundred years old when Isaac was born, 6and Sarah said, "God has made me laugh. [a] Now everyone will laugh with me. 7Who would have dared to tell Abraham that someday I would have a child? But in his old age, I have given him a son." 8The time came when Sarah no longer had to nurse Isaac, [b] and on that day Abraham gave a big feast.
Hagar and Ishmael Are Sent Away
9-10One day, Sarah noticed Hagar's son Ishmael [c] playing, [d] and she said to Abraham, "Get rid of that Egyptian slave woman and her son! I don't want him to inherit anything. It should all go to my son." [e] 11Abraham was worried about Ishmael. 12But God said, "Abraham, don't worry about your slave woman and the boy. Just do what Sarah tells you. Isaac will inherit your family name, 13but the son of the slave woman is also your son, and I will make his descendants into a great nation."
14Early the next morning Abraham gave Hagar an animal skin full of water and some bread. Then he put the boy on her shoulder and sent them away. They wandered around in the desert near Beersheba, 15and after they had run out of water, Hagar put her son under a bush. 16Then she sat down a long way off, because she could not bear to watch him die. And she cried bitterly.
17When God heard the boy crying, the angel of God called out to Hagar from heaven and said, "Hagar, why are you worried? Don't be afraid. I have heard your son crying. 18Help him up and hold his hand, because I will make him the father of a great nation." 19Then God let her see a well. So she went to the well and filled the skin with water, then gave some to her son.
20-21God blessed Ishmael, and as the boy grew older, he became an expert with his bow and arrows. He lived in the Paran Desert, and his mother chose an Egyptian woman for him to marry.

創 世 記 18 章
1 耶 和 華 在 幔 利 橡 樹 那 裡 向 亞 伯 拉 罕 顯 現出 來 。 那 時 正 熱 ， 亞 伯 拉 罕 坐 在 帳 棚 門 口 ，
2 舉 目 觀 看 ， 見 有 三 個 人 在 對 面 站 著 。 他一 見 ， 就 從 帳 棚 門 口 跑 去 迎 接 他 們 ， 俯 伏 在 地 ， 3 說 ： 我 主 ， 我 若 在 你 眼 前 蒙 恩 ， 求 你 不要 離 開 僕 人 往 前 去 。 4 容 我 拿 點 水 來 ， 你 們 洗 洗 腳 ， 在 樹 下 歇息 歇 息 。 5 我 再 拿 一 點 餅 來 ， 你 們 可 以 加 添 心 力 ，然 後 往 前 去 。 你 們 既 到 僕 人 這 裡 來 ， 理 當 如 此 。 他 們 說 ： 就 照 你 說 的 行 罷 。
6 亞 伯 拉 罕 急 忙 進 帳 棚 見 撒 拉 ， 說 ： 你 速速 拿 三 細 亞 細 麵 調 和 作 餅 。 7 亞 伯 拉 罕 又 跑 到 牛 群 裡 ， 牽 了 一 隻 又 嫩又 好 的 牛 犢 來 ， 交 給 僕 人 ， 僕 人 急 忙 預 備 好 了 。 8 亞 伯 拉 罕 又 取 了 奶 油 和 奶 ， 並 預 備 好 的牛 犢 來 ， 擺 在 他 們 面 前 ， 自 己 在 樹 下 站 在 旁 邊 ， 他 們 就 吃 了 。
9 他 們 問 亞 伯 拉 罕 說 ： 你 妻 子 撒 拉 在 那 裡？ 他 說 ： 在 帳 棚 裡 。 10 三 人 中 有 一 位 說 ： 到 明 年 這 時 候 ， 我 必要 回 到 你 這 裡 ； 你 的 妻 子 撒 拉 必 生 一 個 兒 子 。 撒 拉 在 那 人 後 邊 的 帳 棚 門 口 也 聽 見 了 這 話 。
11 亞 伯 拉 罕 和 撒 拉 年 紀 老 邁 ， 撒 拉 的 月 經已 斷 絕 了 。 12 撒 拉 心 裡 暗 笑 ， 說 ： 我 既 已 衰 敗 ， 我 主也 老 邁 ， 豈 能 有 這 喜 事 呢 ？
13 耶 和 華 對 亞 伯 拉 罕 說 ： 撒 拉 為 甚 麼 暗 笑， 說 ： 我 既 已 年 老 ， 果 真 能 生 養 麼 ？ 14 耶 和 華 豈 有 難 成 的 事 麼 ？ 到 了 日 期 ， 明年 這 時 候 ， 我 必 回 到 你 這 裡 ， 撒 拉 必 生 一 個 兒 子 。 15 撒 拉 就 害 怕 ， 不 承 認 ， 說 ： 我 沒 有 笑 。那 位 說 ： 不 然 ， 你 實 在 笑 了 。
16 三 人 就 從 那 裡 起 行 ， 向 所 多 瑪 觀 看 ， 亞伯 拉 罕 也 與 他 們 同 行 ， 要 送 他 們 一 程 。 17 耶 和 華 說 ： 我 所 要 作 的 事 豈 可 瞞 著 亞 伯拉 罕 呢 ？ 18 亞 伯 拉 罕 必 要 成 為 強 大 的 國 ； 地 上 的 萬國 都 必 因 他 得 福 。 19 我 眷 顧 他 ， 為 要 叫 他 吩 咐 他 的 眾 子 和 他的 眷 屬 遵 守 我 的 道 ， 秉 公 行 義 ， 使 我 所 應 許 亞 伯 拉 罕 的 話 都 成 就 了 。
創 世 記 21章
1 耶 和 華 按 著 先 前 的 話 眷 顧 撒 拉 ， 便 照 他所 說 的 給 撒 拉 成 就 。 2 當 亞 伯 拉 罕 年 老 的 時 候 ， 撒 拉 懷 了 孕 ；到 神 所 說 的 日 期 ， 就 給 亞 伯 拉 罕 生 了 一 個 兒 子 。 3 亞 伯 拉 罕 給 撒 拉 所 生 的 兒 子 起 名 叫 以 撒。 4 以 撒 生 下 來 第 八 日 ， 亞 伯 拉 罕 照 著 神所 吩 咐 的 ， 給 以 撒 行 了 割 禮 。 5 他 兒 子 以 撒 生 的 時 候 ， 亞 伯 拉 罕 年 一 百歲 。
6 撒 拉 說 ： 神 使 我 喜 笑 ， 凡 聽 見 的 必 與我 一 同 喜 笑 ； 7 又 說 ： 誰 能 預 先 對 亞 伯 拉 罕 說 撒 拉 要 乳養 嬰 孩 呢 ？ 因 為 在 他 年 老 的 時 候 ， 我 給 他 生 了 一 個 兒 子 。 8 孩 子 漸 長 ， 就 斷 了 奶 。 以 撒 斷 奶 的 日 子， 亞 伯 拉 罕 設 擺 豐 盛 的 筵 席 。
9 當 時 ， 撒 拉 看 見 埃 及 人 夏 甲 給 亞 伯 拉 罕所 生 的 兒 子 戲 笑 ， 10 就 對 亞 伯 拉 罕 說 ： 你 把 這 使 女 和 他 兒 子趕 出 去 ！ 因 為 這 使 女 的 兒 子 不 可 與 我 的 兒 子 以 撒 一 同 承 受 產 業 。 11 亞 伯 拉 罕 因 他 兒 子 的 緣 故 很 憂 愁 。
12 神 對 亞 伯 拉 罕 說 ： 你 不 必 為 這 童 子 和你 的 使 女 憂 愁 。 凡 撒 拉 對 你 說 的 話 ， 你 都 該 聽 從 ； 因 為 從 以 撒 生 的 ， 才 要 稱 為 你 的 後 裔 。 13 至 於 使 女 的 兒 子 ， 我 也 必 使 他 的 後 裔 成 立 一 國 ， 因 為 他 是 你 所 生 的 。
14 亞 伯 拉 罕 清 早 起 來 ， 拿 餅 和 一 皮 袋 水 ，給 了 夏 甲 ， 搭 在 他 的 肩 上 ， 又 把 孩 子 交 給 他 ， 打 發 他 走 。 夏 甲 就 走 了 ， 在 別 是 巴 的 曠 野 走 迷了 路 。 15 皮 袋 的 水 用 盡 了 ， 夏 甲 就 把 孩 子 撇 在 小樹 底 下 ， 16 自 己 走 開 約 有 一 箭 之 遠 ， 相 對 而 坐 ， 說： 我 不 忍 見 孩 子 死 ， 就 相 對 而 坐 ， 放 聲 大 哭 。
17 神 聽 見 童 子 的 聲 音 ； 神 的 使 者 從 天上 呼 叫 夏 甲 說 ： 夏 甲 ， 你 為 何 這 樣 呢 ？ 不 要 害 怕 ， 神 已 經 聽 見 童 子 的 聲 音 了 。 18 起 來 ！ 把 童 子 抱 在 懷 ( 原 文 作 手 ) 中 ， 我 必 使 他 的 後 裔 成 為 大 國 。
19 神 使 夏 甲 的 眼 睛 明 亮 ， 他 就 看 見 一 口水 井 ， 便 去 將 皮 袋 盛 滿 了 水 ， 給 童 子 喝 。 20 神 保 佑 童 子 ， 他 就 漸 長 ， 住 在 曠 野 ，成 了 弓 箭 手 。
21 他 住 在 巴 蘭 的 曠 野 ； 他 母 親 從 埃 及 地 給他 娶 了 一 個 妻 子 。
